Strengthening Local Connections in the Sports Industry

sports industry

Sport continues to evolve far beyond the field of play. Today, growth in the sports industry is increasingly shaped by collaboration, media, technology, and the relationships built behind the scenes.

During a recent visit to Bucharest, Andrei Ilinca, Growth Director at TEC, had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the Romanian Athletics Federation and leading Romanian sports media outlet Gazeta Sporturilor. The visit created an excellent environment for networking, exchanging ideas, and discussing the future of sports engagement in Romania.

Romania has a strong sporting tradition, particularly in athletics, where generations of athletes such as Gabriela Szabo have represented the country on the international stage. As the sports landscape becomes more digital and fan expectations continue to change, organisations are increasingly exploring new ways to connect with audiences, partners, and communities.

Conversations throughout the visit focused on how sports organisations can continue adapting to modern fan behaviour. From media distribution and digital storytelling to fan engagement and sponsorship opportunities, technology is playing a larger role than ever before in shaping the sports industry.

The meetings with Gazeta Sporturilor also highlighted the growing importance of media in building visibility and maintaining fan connection outside of live events. In today’s sports environment, engagement often happens across multiple touchpoints, through highlights, social content, interviews, statistics, and digital platforms that keep supporters connected on a daily basis.

For TEC, the visit represented more than a business trip. It was an opportunity to strengthen relationships within the Romanian sports ecosystem, and better understand the opportunities and challenges facing organisations in the market today.

As the sports industry continues to evolve globally, collaboration between federations, media companies, and technology-focused organisations will become increasingly important. Building sustainable fan engagement, modernising communication strategies, and creating long-term value for audiences are now central priorities across the ecosystem.

This visit to Bucharest reflects the value of these conversations and the importance of maintaining strong connections within sport. By bringing together different perspectives from across athletics, media, and technology, opportunities emerge to support continued innovation and growth across the sector.
